In the middle of a week between two big fixtures in different competitions, the official Chelsea website sat down with Gary Cahill to discuss the significance of maintaining positive momentum and to see how preparations for Paris Saint-Germain are going…

Wednesday’s win at West Ham was certainly not short of goalmouth incident. Amid struck woodwork, saves made and goal-line clearances completed was an exceptional last-ditch block from Gary Cahill.
Diafra Sakho was the man set to score after a rebound fell his way in the six-yard box midway through the second half. But Cahill strained every sinew to divert the ball away from Thibaut Courtois’ net and behind for a corner.
It was as good as a goal. John Terry, close by, celebrated the block by clenching both his fists before lifting his centre-back partner off the turf in preparation for the next bit of dogged defending that was at times required that night.
It was a moment that epitomised our performance in east London. It was a moment that embodied everything that’s good about Chelsea right now. Team spirit is coursing through Cobham.
‘There is a great buzz around the place,’ confirms Cahill when asked what the mood in the camp is like.
‘The cup final was huge in terms of the atmosphere around the club and the dressing room. We were desperate as a team, as a squad, to win that game. It’s the first time this group – a newish group formed at the start of last season and before this season – has reached the end of a competition together.
